24th & 25th June 2017

Hurst Show and Country Fayre

Hurst Show and Country Fayre is a unique event held in Hurst, Berkshire, during two full days in June. Established 38 years ago, the 2017 show is over the weekend of June 24th and 25th.

Thousands visit the show every year. Visitors say they like the friendly and rural, non-commercial atmosphere. It is a true village show that takes its support from all members of the local community and gives back generous support to deserving causes within the village and the local area.

The show will be opened at 10:30 on Saturday morning, by Hurst Pantomime Group’s Snow Queen. Icily witty speech predicted!

Another highlight will be the UK’s first Hobby Horse show jumping championships, 2:30 Sunday afternoon. You can see a preview of this exciting event on BBC Breakfast’s Saturday morning programme.

By popular demand, the successful classic car & bike show and fun dog show are on both days this year. The food fair a hit last year, is expanding. Hurst's own Magic Circle magician Clive Winterton will amaze again. Families tell us children enjoy doing things for themselves like giant tugs of war, morris dancing and holding owls. See what they told us.

Plans include: terrier racing, pony rides and displays by search and rescue dogs, falconers and expert horse riders. Rural crafts and produce will be on sale. Ancient country skills will be demonstrated. The colourful cacophony of side shows, bouncy castle, Aunt Sally and skittles, bar and refreshments will ensure wall to wall entertainment for all the family.

A fabulous and free exhibition of paintings, textiles, ceramics and furniture from ten local artists and makers will be in the Village Hall on the Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can browse or buy.

We are planning a spectacular weekend. Come both days so you don't miss any fun!

The Show has raised many thousands of pounds, mainly for local charities and other good causes. St Nicholas Primary School has always been the principal beneficiary. The show also stalwartly supports the local scout and guide movements, Wokingham Red Diamonds Sports for the disabled, St Nicholas Pre-School, and many other good causes.

Appreciation of the late David Jennings

We would like to record our appreciation of all that the late David Jennings did for Hurst Show & Country Fayre.

He and his family, his wife Jacky, mother Eve and father Peter have been faithful supporters of the show for many years. This support has been in ways that went far beyond their business providing us with hundreds of excellent sausages and burgers for our show BBQ.

David's cheerful encouragement, friendship and help was much valued by everyone. We would like to express our thanks for all he and his family have done for the show and the village over the years.
